Stakeholders discussed protecting children from online abuse at national summit
Stakeholders have called for faster and more coordinated action to protect children in Ghana from online sexual exploitation and abuse.
The call came during the National Online Safety Summit 2026 held in Accra from February 3 to 4, 2026 under the theme, “Closing the Gaps, Building a United Front Against Online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse in Ghana.”
The summit, hosted by the Cyber Security Authority in collaboration with the Ghana Internet Safety Foundation and other partners, brought together government agencies, civil society organisations, technology companies, and law enforcement to discuss ways to safeguard children in the country’s growing digital space.
According to metrotvonline.com report on February 5, 2026, participants stressed that early education, strong enforcement, and a coordinated national approach are essential to keeping children safe online.
They warned that fragmented and reactive strategies are no longer sufficient.

“Fragmented and reactive approaches are no longer enough, there is a need to shift towards prevention and collaboration as Ghana’s digital space continues to expand,” the report said.
Acting Director General of the Cyber Security Authority, Divine Selase Agbeti, described child online protection as a national security priority.
He urged parents to become digitally informed, schools to integrate digital citizenship and online safety into their curriculum, and technology companies to strengthen safeguards for young users.
Agbeti also reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to improving reporting and response systems, enhancing data-driven threat analysis, and deepening collaboration among government, civil society, and the private sector.
From a law enforcement perspective, Director General of the Criminal Investigations Department, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, emphasised the need for a victim-centred approach.
She stressed that strong legal frameworks, effective investigations, and close partnerships are crucial to delivering justice and deterring offenders.
The summit concluded with stakeholders agreeing on the need for a united, proactive approach to safeguard children in Ghana’s expanding digital environment.
