The Ministry of Health has announced that payment of unpaid arrears to nurses and midwives posted during the 2024/2025 cycle will begin in April.

The decision follows successful negotiations between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Finance to resolve the financial backlog that has affected personnel across the country.

To ensure a “timely and responsible” settlement, the government has structured the disbursements into four monthly instalments.

According to the official schedule, the payments will be distributed as follows: April two months of arrears; May three months of arrears; June — three months of arrears and July, three months of arrears.

The Ministry of Health commended the affected healthcare workers for their patience and “continued service to the nation” despite the significant delays.

It noted that the Ministry of Finance treated the matter with the necessary urgency to safeguard the welfare of frontline staff.

The Ministry reiterated that the phased approach forms part of a broader commitment to maintaining the motivation of the health workforce while effectively managing national obligations.
