President John Dramani Mahama has directed all health facilities across Ghana to ensure that no patient is turned away, even when hospitals are full.

The directive comes after the tragic death of 29-year-old Charles Amissah, who was reportedly denied treatment at three major hospitals in Accra.

Speaking on Friday, February 27, 2026, during the 2026 State of the Nation Address, the President emphasised that emergency care must be delivered regardless of bed availability.

“You do not need to have a comfortable bed to save a patient. No patient must be turned away from any health facility they report to,” he stated.

In addition, Phase Two of the Ridge Hospital project will begin, increasing bed capacity and improving service delivery at one of Ghana’s major healthcare institutions.

The President urged the Ministry of Health to issue operational guidelines to eliminate the “no bed” syndrome, ensuring that patients receive timely medical attention under all circumstances.
