Training on the use of GMTFcare software has officially begun at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), in a significant step toward improving healthcare delivery in Ghana.

The initiative, led by the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, is aimed at strengthening patient-centred care by equipping health professionals with the skills needed to efficiently onboard patients onto a digital platform designed to streamline access to medical assistance.

Administrator of the Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, during a supervision of the implementation and training process, described it as a critical milestone in the government’s efforts to modernise healthcare delivery in the country.

“This training is an important step in ensuring that patients who need support can be enrolled quickly and accurately into the system. Our goal is to make healthcare support more accessible, transparent, and responsive to the needs of Ghanaians,” she said.

The training programme is equipping healthcare workers with practical skills in patient enrolment, data capture, and digital record management to improve overall service delivery.

In addition, IT specialists are installing and integrating infrastructure to support real-time patient data management, claims verification, to facilitate timely assistance.

According to officials, the new system is expected to significantly reduce delays and improve coordination between healthcare providers and the Fund.

A health professional and participant of the training noted that the digital platform would enhance efficiency in handling patient information.

“This system will help us manage patient records better and ensure that those who need assistance receive it without unnecessary delays,” the participant said.

The introduction of GMTFcare is also expected to support the management of chronic non-communicable diseases, which continue to place a growing burden on Ghana’s healthcare system.

Stakeholders say the initiative reflects a broader commitment to restoring hope and dignity for patients by ensuring faster and more reliable access to care.

As the Ghana Medical Trust Fund continues to expand its reach, the GMTFcare rollout is expected to play a key role in making healthcare delivery more efficient and patient-focused across the country.
