The Pharmacy Department of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has commissioned a newly renovated 24-hour pharmacy annex to improve service delivery and enhance patient care.
The facility, officially opened on Thursday, April 16, 2026, is housed in the former Adherence and Counselling Building and represents the first phase of a wider redevelopment plan for the hospital’s pharmacy services.
Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, Dr Yakubu Seidu Adam, reaffirmed management’s commitment to continuous improvement, stating that more upgrades will be introduced in the coming months.
Director of Pharmacy, Dr Charles Ofei-Palm, described the project as the first major upgrade to the hospital’s 24-hour pharmacy since 1996.
He said the renovation forms part of efforts to reposition the department as a key access point for healthcare delivery.
The upgraded annex introduces bedside delivery of medicines to all wards, a digital messaging platform for client interaction, and round-the-clock call-in services through intercom and direct telephone lines.
Hospital authorities say the new services are expected to significantly improve patient experience by reducing waiting times, ensuring faster access to medications, and easing the burden on patients and their families.
Bedside medicine delivery is also expected to promote timely treatment for admitted patients, while the communication platforms will improve access to information and reduce congestion at the pharmacy.
The commissioning ceremony featured a symbolic ribbon-cutting and was attended by members of the Central Management Team, heads of units, key stakeholders and donors.
