As part of efforts to harmonize healthcare maintenance and post-graduate medical education in Ghana, Ghanaian physicians, surgeons, allied healthcare practitioners, and related organizations are preparing for the 9th Annual Healthcare Summit in Atlanta, Georgia, United States on April 15-17, 2011. Under the theme: “Continuing medical education and health care maintenance: challenges in implementation in developing countries”, it is being organized by the Ghana Physicians and Surgeons Foundation of North America.
In the spirit of collaboration, this year’s conference would attract representatives from Ghana’s post-graduate medical college, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology Medical College, Ghana Health Services, and the Ghana Medical and Dental Council.
Daniel Ohene Agyekum, Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States would address the gathering, so are renowned academicians, medical specialists, and representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO). Other presentations would focus on scientific research works, new medical paradigms, and how to extend quality medical education to post-graduate students in Ghana. Other highlights of the summit are special symposium- “Referendum on the role of physicians in the Diaspora and healthcare maintenance in Ghana”, and an evening gala dinner dance.
“These are obviously very exciting times for our Foundation, as we make healthcare maintenance and continuous medical education our priority, it also amplifies of our commitment to humanity”, says Dr. George Ofori-Amanfo, Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Duke University, Durham, North-Carolina, and President of the Foundation.
Ofori-Amanfo reiterates the Foundation’s strong attachment to linkages with key partners in the health industry, describing them as drivers for efficient healthcare policies, for which Ghanaian physicians and surgeons in North American would continue to explore in the interest of efficient healthcare delivery in Ghana.
