'No wrongful medication' – Ridge Hospital responds to viral post on patient’s death

The Management of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital has debunked reports of medical negligence in connection with a patient’s death that occurred six years ago following renewed public attention sparked by a recent viral social media post.

In a statement issued on July 4, 2026, and signed by Head of Public Relations Juliana Haruna, the hospital clarified that the case was thoroughly investigated in collaboration with relevant state authorities, and no wrong or inappropriate medication was administered to the patient.

"We wish to state that the circulating allegations regarding the said patient’s death were thoroughly investigated and managed in collaboration with relevant state authorities six (6) years ago.

"The investigation confirmed that no wrong or inappropriate medication was administered to the patient", the statement said.

Addressing a specific allegation that nurses were heard laughing around the time of the incident, management stated that the laughter was completely unrelated to this index case.

The hospital urged the public to avoid eavesdropping on clinical discussions during ward rounds or training sessions, warning that such out-of-context observations often lead to misleading conclusions.

It also cautioned bloggers and the public against publishing or circulating unverified, misleading or inaccurate information regarding this matter, as such conduct can cause undue distress to the bereaved family, mislead the public, and damage the reputation of the hospital and its staff.

While expressing continued sympathy to the bereaved family, the hospital reaffirmed its commitment to delivering compassionate, timely, quality, and comprehensive healthcare services to all patients.

The hospital encouraged individuals who still have concerns about the matter to reach out directly to its management or appropriate supervisory and regulatory bodies for clarification and possible redress.
