Dr Angela Kutin Mensah of Chrispod Hospital has dismissed claims that men sucking their partners’ breasts can prevent breast cancer.

She has rather encouraged men to help identify possible warning signs by paying attention to changes in their partners’ breasts.

According to her, partners who are familiar with each other’s bodies may notice unusual changes, including lumps, changes in breast size or shape, and fluid discharge that was not present before.

KATH records 234 confirmed breast cancer cases in 2025

Speaking during a breast cancer screening campaign organised by the Adunyame Foundation and Hadassah Network Outreach on October 9, 2026, she said such observations could prompt women to seek early medical attention.

“For the men, what can rather help is that since your partner knows your body and breasts, he can rather touch or feel around your breast. You may notice that there is a lump, or your breast looks bigger than the other. It wasn't like that before,” she said.

Dr Kutin Mensah added that men might also notice unusual fluid coming from their partners’ nipples.

“Once he starts to suck or something, he can find some fluid coming from your breast. These are all kinds of screening, without him consciously screening,” she said.

She stressed that noticing changes in the breasts is not a substitute for medical screening, and women who notice unusual lumps in their breasts, nipple discharge or other changes should be assessed by a health professional.
