The National Ambulance Service (NAS) has restored two ambulances serving Nalerigu and Gambaga to operational service after one remained grounded for more than two years and the other for nine months, a move expected to improve emergency medical response in the communities.

The two vehicles, which had been out of service because of mechanical faults, have undergone repairs and are ready to resume duty, according to the Service.

The Gambaga-based Nalerigu/Gambaga Constituency ambulance, with registration number GV-674-19, returned to service on October 12, 2026, following the replacement of its engine. The vehicle had been grounded for more than two years after an engine breakdown.

The second ambulance, registered GV-22-20 and based in Nalerigu, had been out of service for nine months due to faults involving its clutch disc and injectors. Repairs have since been completed, allowing the vehicle to return to emergency response duties.

The return of the two ambulances is expected to ease some of the operational pressure on emergency medical services in Nalerigu, Gambaga and neighbouring communities, where access to a functioning ambulance can be critical when patients require urgent medical attention.

The restoration forms part of the National Ambulance Service’s Operation Restore Fleet initiative, which seeks to return grounded vehicles to service and improve the availability and operational readiness of its ambulance fleet.

The development also draws attention to the importance of timely vehicle maintenance and repairs in sustaining emergency medical services, particularly in communities where the prolonged absence of an ambulance can constrain emergency response capacity.

With both vehicles back in commission, the Service has reaffirmed its commitment to providing timely, professional and reliable pre-hospital emergency care to residents of Nalerigu, Gambaga and surrounding communities.
