Takoradi, Aug. 14, GNA — Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis on Saturday donated blood to the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital.

Mr Emmanuel Botwe, Community Relations Officer of the Church, said the blood donation exercise is organized annually by the church to support health facilities in the metropolis and to help save lives.

The senior officer at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, Mr Emil Anornu, commended the church for the exercise saying the blood donation by the church would help the hospital save lives.

He said until recently the hospital had blood shortage and that such efforts as done by the church helped them to re-stock the blood bank.

Mr Anornu said those who donate blood to the hospital were given certificates and that in emergencies they were not asked to bring someone to replace the blood given them.

He said it was good to donate blood and that those who often donate blood did not usually get sick because they empty the blood in their system and fresh blood is produced by the blood cells to replace the old one and this makes them healthy all the time.

Mr Anornu said as precautionary measure, those with diabetes, cancer, sickle cells and asthma were not allowed to donate blood.

He called on organizations, churches and all well-meaning Ghanaians to donate blood to help save lives.
