The efficiency and quality of health care delivery is gradually deteriorating in the Eastern region with the seeming collapse of the national health insurance program at several health care facilities.

Three major health facilities in the region notably, the St Dominic Hospital, Asamankese regional hospital and the Kyede Government hospital have all stopped accepting National Health Insurance cards at their facilities following an unpaid claim by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) for the past seven months

According to management of these facilities, the unconcerned attitude by the NHIA is not only imparting negatively on the financial strengths of the hospitals but also patience as well

Citi News checks indicate that children, the aged and pregnant women are the worst hit in this situation as they are denied treatment by the management unless one is prepared to foot their own bill for treatment or attention.
