Mr Emmanuel Don Kwesi, Northern Regional Chairman of the Health Services Workers’ Union of TUC on Thursday called for transparency and accountability in the operation of the Temporary Pension Fund (TPF) account at the Bank of Ghana.

He said government should order the Controller and the Account-General to remit their five per cent of the 18 and half total contribution into their custodian account immediately.

Mr Emmanuel Don Kwesi, who made the call in Tamale during a media briefing said, “Some of the members of the scheme would retire from services from January next year and have to collect their lump sum for tier 2, yet the institutional arrangement to facilitate the process was unavailable”.

The Press conference was meant to raise certain concerns regarding the tier 2 pension scheme to be operated by the Health Sector Occupational Pension Scheme.

He appealed to government to allow the registered pension schemes to operate and stop the imposition of the pension Alliance Trust on their members.

He said the Union had agreed on the appointment of the Service Providers contracted by the Board of Trustees of the scheme and had full confidence in the Board of Trustees and service providers.

He however cautioned that the union would resist any attempt to impose any company on them as an enterprise trustees.

“We wish to state emphatically that we shall advise ourselves accordingly if nothing is heard from the government within one week”, it said.
