Shortage of mosquito nets at weighing centres

There is a shortage of mosquito nets given to nursing mothers at weighing centres due to the fire that gutted the Tema Medical Stores early this year, a Community Health Nurse at the Mother-Love Weighing centre, said on Friday.

She said: “For the last two months we have not gotten the supply of the mosquito nets, so we were giving out what we had in stock, which has now run out.”

The nurse, who refused to mention her name made this known in an interview with the GNA.

The community health nurse was, however, hopeful that in a few months, the weighing centres will receive the supply of mosquito nets to save children and pregnant women, who were the most affected by malaria.

A nursing mother, who gave her name only as Aunty Adwoa, confirmed that she was not given a mosquito net when she visited the centre.

She said: “I even wish that the mosquito nets are given to nursing mothers at birth when the babies are most vulnerable, instead of waiting till they are 18 months.”

A visit to the 37 Military Hospital, Child Health Department by the GNA confirmed the story.

The mosquito nets are currently being sold on the market at between GH?18.00 and GH?24.00 cedis.
