Mr Mark Woyongo, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Navrongo Central, has organized a two day medical screening exercise for his constituency.

The exercise on the theme: “A healthy Community is a Wealthy Community”, brought together doctors, nurses and other medical personnel from Tamale, Sunyani and Accra; and was conducted in collaboration with the Navrongo War Memorial Hospital.

As part of the exercise, people were screened for malaria, blood pressure, hypertension amongst others and those found ill were given the needed prescription.

The people were also educated on preventive healthcare, while others donated blood to the Navrongo War Memorial Hospital.

Speaking after the event, Mr Woyongo, who is also the Minister of Interior, said this was part of several initiatives he has executed in the area besides others being undertaken in the water, sanitation, education and road sector.

He said currently 8.45 million dollars had been earmarked for the Small Water Town System project which is ongoing, while a Turkish team would soon start drilling boreholes at various sites in the constituency.

Mr Abdulai Mumuni Nyoka, the Zongo Youth Coordinator of the National Democratic Congress, said the intervention had helped in addressing the healthcare needs of the people as many could not afford basic healthcare delivery.

He lauded the MP for providing an ambulance to the Kologo Health post and the renovation of some CHPS compounds in the Constituency

Mr Tibambuya Cletus Apiu, the Administrator of the Navrongo War Memorial Hospital, said the hospital was prepared to collaborate with any organization seeking to ensure that quality healthcare was delivered to the people.

Many beneficiaries interviewed by the Ghana News Agency said the intervention had come at the right time saying such exercises were needed on a regular basis.
