The chiefs and people of Pra River, a predominantly farming community in the Asante-Akim South District, have held a durbar to raise funds towards the completion of a clinic they were constructing through self-help.

The 20-bed facility, which comes with an Out Patients Department (OPD), consulting room, a dispensary, general and labour wards, would serve the health needs of the people not only in the community but those in the surrounding villages.

It would effectively end the situation where the sick and pregnant women are forced to make a round trip of about 30 kilometres to receive treatment at either Juaso or Nnadieso.

A total of GH?7,100 was realized at the durbar.

Mr. De-graft Forkuo, the District Chief Executive (DCE), applauded the community for taking the initiative to tackle their felt need, using their own resources.

He said that was the way to go to speed up the development of the area, pointing out that, the government could not be expected to provide for every single need of the various communities.

“You deserve commendation for taking a bold step to address your health needs”, he added.

Mr. Forkuo gave the assurance that the assembly would stand with the people every step of the way to complete the project.

The clinic, which was started, last year, is now at the lintel level of construction.

Nana Baah Sarpong, the Akwamuhene, said they were determined to see the job done without delay to provide them access to quality healthcare.
