Asitey, a community in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal of the eastern region will soon boast of a new healthcare facility, thanks to the Honourable Member of Parliament for the area, who on Thursday broke the ground for work to start on the facility which is scheduled to be completed in four months.
Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, himself a biomedical scientist and former university lecturer explained to a colourful durbar of residents, chiefs and party faithful at a short ceremony at Asitey that the facility was his widow’s mite towards ensuring the provision of quality healthcare to a community disadvantaged by is location from major health facilities in the constituency.
He praised the community members for their self-help spirit and called on them to support the upcoming project.
The lawmaker who has already built and equipped similar health facilities was convinced the CHPS compound will be of great benefit to the people of Asitey.
The close to Gh c 500 000 amenity being constructed by AB-Ziko Company Limited when completed will house a CHPS compound, theater, consulting rooms, OPD, maternity and labour wards, a 3 bedroom flat accommodation and a mechanized borehole, designed to deliver healthcare services to the doorstep of the community which has had to endure the absence of a reliable clinic.
Managing Director of AB-Ziko Company Limited, Nana Agyei Boateng assured the constituents that work would be completed on time to serve their interest.
Dr. Akosua Owusu-Sarpong, Health Director of the Municipality said efforts to bring the facility to the people of Asitey falls in line with the policy of the Ghana Health Service to provide quality, affordable and reliable healthcare services to various communities as part of the GHS’ vision to reduce morbidity and mortality among the people.
The proximity of such facilities to populated areas, she noted would not only reduce dependence on drug stores and self-medication but also provide all round healthcare services to the community.
Dr. Owusu-Sarpong however appealed to the Ghana Health Service to support the facility with the needed equipment to ensure that it is fully functional.
The facility, according to Hon Terlabi is being funded with the MPs’ common fund with support from the National Health Insurance Authority and the MP’s personal initiatives.
The MP as part of activities on the day also donated books including a textbook composition of solved past questions and literature materials to final year students of the Asitey Presby School as his support to the Basic Education Certificate Examination, BECE candidates who will begin their exams from Monday, June 10.
Mr Okletey Terlabi tasked teachers to not only teach students from the syllabus but also teach them how to write and pass examinations.
The headmaster of the school received the books on behalf of the school.
