Rumibeth Foundation, a nongovernmental organsiation (NGO) on Saturday organised a free health screening exercise for residents of Odumse in the Greater Accra region.

A team of health practitioners from the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and the Dodowas hospital in Accra were put together for the exercise which saw about a hundred persons, having their vital signs, Basic Mass Index (BMI) and eyes checked.

Drugs were administered on individuals who tested positive to minor ailments while those who were diagnosed with serious cases, referred to health centres for further investigations and treatment.

In her remarks, Ms Wilhemina Esianua Minnow, Founder of the Foundation underscored the need for frequent check up by the public, saying early detection of diseases, saved lives.

She bemoaned situations where people had to wait until they were extremely weak before seeking medical attention.

“It is very important to visit the hospital at least twice every year for checkup just to be sure that everything is going on well in your body. Do not wait until it is too late before looking for a doctor,” she advised.

Ms Minnow, who is a student of the Korle Bu Nurses and Midwifery Training College indicated that Rumibeth Foundation would continue to undertake series of activities to promote healthy living among the populace.

She called on individuals and corporate organisations to also contribute their quota towards improving the lives of the vulnerable.

More than 90 copies of Rapsodies of realities, a Christian devotional guide and treated mosquito nets were also distributed to beneficiaries of the health screening exercise.

Madam Rebecca Yeboah, a 45 year old mother of four who benefitted from the exercise expressed gratitude to Rumibeth Foundation for the kind gesture, saying she was happy to have found out her health status and also for receiving treatment mosquito net.
