Bofoekrom (B/A), Jan 29, GNA - African Assistance Plan, an NGO has dewormed about 1,500 school children selected from deprived communities in the Sunyani municipality at Bofoekrom, near Odumase on Friday to improve on their health status.
The NGO, which s an offshoot of the New Life World Mission, drew the beneficiaries from Koase, Nkwadum, Sukoko, Kwamekumikrom, Akwapimkrom and Pepease, provided them with Albendazole and Multi-vitamin tablets estimated at 30 million cedis. The exercise forms part of a rural water projects undertaken by a five-member-delegation of the Mission from United States, who are on a five-day feasibility study of the projects in the region. The delegates are, Mr Douglas Woodard, Chairman of the NGO, Mr Dale Keener, an insurance broker, Mr David Maddox, building instructor, Mr Matthew Woodard and Mr John Maddox, both businessmen. Earlier Mrs Victoria Ewoe, Senior Midwife of the Bofoekrom Community Health Centre appealed to the NGO to help construct bole-hole in the communities to enhance quality drinking water among the people. She thanked the benefactors for the gesture and expressed the hope that the NGO would continue to help alleviate the plight of the people by providing them with quality health delivery. Mr Michael Gyamfi, Headmaster of Bofoekrom M/A Primary School expressed concern about the alarming rate of malaria among the children and appealed to other NGOs and philanthropist to emulate the shining examples of the benefactors.
Mr David Maddox advised the children to exhibit a sense of discipline and concentrate on their books to become useful citizens. He advised parents to instil in their wards, the word of God and give them the necessary counsel and advice in other not to expose themselves to unnecessary dangers. Bishop David Donkor, founder of the mission stressed the need for parents to monitor the movements and activities of their children and provide them with the necessary assistance towards their education.
