Bottom of the Zone "B" in the GT premier league, Brong-Ahafo United gladdened the hearts of their teeming supporters when they beat visiting Ashantigold of Obuasi 1-0 in their match played at the Coronation Park, Sunyani.
The lone goal of the match was scored by substitute Osmanu Sakora in the 69th minute, after a pulsating goal-less first half. Ashantigold had to play with only 10 players for the greater part of the match because referee Azizah Agedo of Tema gave Anthony Baffoe the march off order early in the game for intentionally poking a finger into the eyes of a United attacker.
Sakora beat goalkeeper Kankani Abukari who had been splendid all afternoon with an intelligent shot during a goal-mouth scramble. With Mohammed Adamu, Alfred Arthur and Kofi Amoako playing a good game at the heart of the Ashantigold defence and with goalkeeper Abukari showing good form, the Obuasi lads contained the homers despite their numerical disadvantage.
The attacking force of United made up of Kwasi Boateng, Stephen Amo, Addae Owusu, Clement Ntiamoah and Ishmael Fridos fought vainly to capitalize on their advantage after the exit of Baffoe in the 24th minute but only managed to win many corner kicks which they failed to convert.
The match started at 3.45 p.m. and just two minutes into the game, Addae Owusu nearly scored for United but his long-range shot was pushed to corner.
United kept pressing for the lead and once again came close to scoring in the 15th minute but goalkeeper Abukari saved Clement Ntiamoah's free-kick.
The two sides played it hard after the quarter hour and in the 22nd minute, AshGold's Adamu attracted the referee's yellow card for rough play only to be followed by a red to Baffoe in the 24th minute..
Tema based referee Agedo maintained his "eagle eyes" on the game and in the 33rd and 37th minutes, Nana Gyamfi (alias DISCO) and Stephen Amo both of United also attracted yellow cards respectively. In the 42nd minute Addae Owusu missed a goal chance for United.
United were the first to make substitutions on resumption of play when they brought in Osuman Sakora in the 47th minute and he nearly assisted with the first goal but Ntiamoah's ground connection to his through ball narrowly missed target.
Ashgold brought in Daniel Asamoah for Richard Amoah in the 52nd minute and again replaced Isaac Amponsah with Ronaldo Awudu in the 59th minute, while United also changed Ibrahim with Kwasi Boateng in the 63rd minute.
The changes favoured United, as they kept piling pressure on Ashgold and it was little wonder when in the 69th minute, Sakora banged in the match winner.
The pressure was still on the Obuasi team when referee Agedo's final whistle went for the end of the game with the final score remaining 1-0 in favour of B.A. United
