Committee submits Report on formation of Premier League Club

Bolgatanga, Nov. 1, GNA - The Committee set up by the Upper East Regional Minister to come out with modalities and measures towards the formation of a formidable Premier football Club in the Region has submitted its Report to the Minister at Bolgatanga.

The Chairman of the Committee, Mr Joseph B. Kwogyenga who presented the Report to Mr Mark Woyongo, the Regional Minister, said they had a lot of consultations with football experts and also interacted with various managers of First and Second Division Clubs before coming out with the Report.

Mr Kwogyenga indicated that the Report entailed pragmatic measures including the road map of formation of a Club, sponsorship, Management and how to select and tap talents of the team for the Premier Club among others. The Chairman stressed the need for the splinter football clubs to cooperate and collaborate when it comes to selecting players to form the nucleus of the team adding that if they fail to bury their differences and come together they cannot form a formidable team to represent the Region at the premiership.

Mr Kwogyenga therefore appealed to the people and corporate bodies in the Region to support the formation of a viable Club to the Premier division and noted that very soon the Middle League would commence and it was the expectation that quality players are selected to compete towards the Premier division.

Mr Woyongo thanked members of the Committee for the timely presentation of the Report and said he would study it and later form an implementation committee to see to its success, stressing that it was necessary that within two years the Region should have a premier club.

He said that neutral coaches from various parts of the country and in the Region would be mandated to select the players that would form the core team of the club to represent the Region.

Mr Woyongo said that the teams that would produce players for the expected Premier Club stand a greater chance of benefiting from their efforts since they would have the benefit of grooming more players for the team.

Chairman of the Regional Football Association, Mr Yakubu Braimah hinted that there was a lot of good will from people who are ready to support the Region to form a Premier Club and appealed to the team managers of the splinter teams in the Region to work to ensure that the programme succeeds. 01 Nov. 09
