Obuasi, Dec. 23, GNA - A controversial penalty awarded New Edubiase FC in the 88th minute earned them a 3-3 draw with Kumasi Asante Kotoko in th= e Week 11 Glo Premier League clash at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium on Wednesday.
Kotoko were leading 3-2 at the time for the penalty. They protested vehemently against referee J.A. Amenyah's decision but to no avail. When sanity was restored, Bansi Seidu who had earlier scored twice converted the kick to record a hat-trick.
It was the Porcupine Warriors who opened the scoring on 12 minutes when a hard pressed defender Carlos Coffie scored an own goal. New Edubiase accepted the challenge and mounted severe pressure on Kotoko and earned the equalizer through a spot kick in the 34th minute taken by Seidu.
Undaunted, Kotoko lifted up their game and Edward Afum made it two before Samad Oppong increased the tally to 3-1 to end the first half. Seidu was once again on target to reduce the tally for the New Edubiase in the 51st minute.
When everything looked set for Kotoko to collect the maximum three points, referee Amenyah awarded a doubtful penalty for Seidu to level up the scores.
Four yellow cards were flashed, three for Kotoko's Frank Boateng, Sa= mad Oppong and Afum and one to Iddrisu Yahaya of New Edubiase. Referee Amenyah after the final whistle was immediately whisked away= by the security to avoid harassment by the angry Kotoko supporters.
