Liberty labour to ditch Sportive

Accra, April 20, GNA - Dansoman-based Liberty Professionals laboured to ditch visiting Real Sportive 1-0 in their mid-week Premier League match of the GT sponsored competition at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium on Wednesday.

It was one math that the Tema-based team should have won only to allow substitute Kofi Nti Boakye of Liberty to grab the vital winner in injury time at their expense.

Sportive who enjoyed the better part of play paid dearly for neglecting their rear in their quest for goals when Boakye made the best out of a long set-up to race above his markers before scoring against the run of play.

Though both teams sold out an uninspiring game, it was the visitors who glittered with great interpositional play spiced with accurate passes that saw them shuffling with ease. Sportive, however, lacked the killing off power whenever they approached Liberty's vital area and to allow coach Sir Cecil Jones Attuquayefio's team off the hook on countless occasion.

Hearts Beat Spurs

In Koforidua, Accra Hearts of Oak staged a second half comeback to beat homers Kade Hotspurs 2-1 in a keenly contested match. Hotspurs scored first in the 32nd minute when Anas Mohammed beat a host of Heaets defenders before rounding up goalkeeper Sammy and planting the ball in the net. The goal unsettled Hearts, as the Kade lads dominated proceedings but failed increase the tally due to over elaboration and erratic shooting.

When play resumed in the second half, Hearts redoubled their efforts and got the equaliser in the 57th minute through Anthony Annan who spiked a snap shot into the roof of the net from atop the penalty box. Alfred Nii Larbi had the chance to put Hearts ahead a minute later but the stocky striker thundered his shot against the cross bar and the rebound strayed away from the Hearts frontline.

In the 78th minute, an under pressure Hotspurs defender handled the ball in his own penalty box and James Boateng converted the resultant penalty to put Hearts 2-1 up.

The final stages of the produced very anxious moments fore both sides but they failed to take any more chances.

AshGold Silence dwarfs

At Cape Coast, visiting AshantiGold defied the massive home support of Ebusua Dwarfs to pip them 1-0 in their Premier mid-week league match at the Robert Mensah Sports stadium on Wednesday.

AshantiGold parading a deadly strike force made up of Mohammed Polo, Shaibu Yakubu, Anthony Baffoe and Solomon Opoku forced Dwarfs to play in their own half for most of the first half.

Dwarfs repulsed the early attack and nearly went ahead in the 35th minute but Dwarfs play-maker Ekow Ghansah's shot sailed over the bar. AshGold once again forced the tide in their favour and following a series of beautiful man-to-man passes initiated at the right flank, midfielder Yakubu exploited a defensive blunder to score the only goal of the match which turned out to be the match winner.

The second half saw Dwarfs on the warpath. They piled pressure and made several efforts to find the equalizer but try as they did, they could not find the net until the end of the proceedings.
