Accra, Nov. 27, GNA - Midfielder Michael Helegbe powered Liberty Professionals to a lone goal victory over Berekum Arsenal in their week eight 2011/2012 Glo premiership clash on Sunday at the Carl Reindorf Park, Dansoman.
Helegbe scored the only goal of the match on 71 minutes for Liberty to record their first win over the visitors in two years and aid their rise on the League log.
This was the first time since the 2009/2010 season that Arsenal had suffered a loss at the hands of Liberty at the latter’s backyard in Accra.
The hosts were the better side but failed to make the most of their dominance in the second half after a competitive and even first half.
The visitor’s attack led by James Boadu and Joseph Masiri kept the Liberty defence on their toes throughout the game with their penchant thirst for goal.
Against the run of play, however Helegbe was put through by Christopher Nkansah and he fired a one time shot at goal that the Arsenal goalkeeper Rashid Mutawakili failed to handle.
As the Arsenal goalie thought he had parried the ball to safety he only to turned to find the ball at the mercy of the yawning net.
Nine minutes from time, Arsenal had a chance to draw even but substitute Enock Asare’s diving header was dealt with by Liberty goalie Akwasi Acheampong. The Liberty shot stopper stretched to save the effort and ensure his side maintain the lead and carry the maximum points.
The victory ensured Liberty maintained their 100 percent record at home this season.
