King Faisal Beat league Leaders

King Faisal fought gallantly to beat Premier League leaders, Obausi Ashgold by two goals to one (2-1) at their home base in the 10th Week edition of the Onetouch Premier League match at the Sunyani Coronation Park.

Ashgold got the first goal in the 30th minute through their speedster and striker Alex Amoah after he outrun his marker to pounce on a surging ball sent in from Valentine Atem.

The goal however came just after King Faisal had succeeded in beating their opponents to many of the off-side traps and soaking up the pressure up to the dying minutes of the first half.

Back from the recess and fully fortified to get an equaliser, King Faisal turned the pressure on Ashgold but their stalwart defender, Joe Hendricks and skipper of the side, Anthony Baffoe managed to hold the Faisal strikers in check by clearing most of the dangerous balls to safety.

Substitute Micky Fosu finally got the equaliser for King Faisal in the 66th minute when he capitalized on a poor header from an Ashgold defender right inside the 18 yard box from a free-kick taken by Faisal's midfielder, Kwaku Essien just outside the penalty box. King Faisal's Owusu Agyemang sealed the doom of the Miners when he scored from what looked like a controversial penalty in injury time following the fouling of a striker, which Class One Referee Patrick Agego Azzizah awarded to the Kumasi lads.

Coach Abdul Karim Zito of King Faisal later in an interview attributed the team's sudden success to the stamina of the boys and expressed total satisfaction with the performance of his players. "They (Ashgold) are league leaders and officiating was not bad but my boys had the stamina and that ensured we sailed through", he stated.

Obeng Darko's goal scored in the second minute of time added on enabled Kumasi Asante Kotoko to beat Tema based Real Sportive 2-1 in the Onetouch Premier League match played at the Konongo Waterloo Park.. The goal came in a goalmouth melee after incessant raids on their opponent's vital area after the homers had levelled up in the 74th minute through substitute Ahmed Toure.

Sportive took the lead in the 16th minute when Alhassan Nuhu pounced on a loose ball from Micheal Asante, raced with it and put the ball on the blind side of onrushing goalkeeper, Mohammed Alhassan. Determined to carry the day, Kotoko piled pressure on their opponents but could not penetrate the defence of Sportive thus going into recess on the back foot.

Sensing danger, Kotoko new coach, Tilat Uzum made three substitutions, as Kenneth Ababio gave way to Osei Akoto, Arhin Duah was replaced by Ahmed Toure and George Yamoah also came in for Daniel Acquah in the 60th minute. This really brought a complete transformed Kotoko side which, really terrorised the defence of Sportive to concede two goals that yielded victory to Kotoko. 12 Nov 06
