The head coach of newly promoted Kumasi base King Faisal, Stephen Abugri says he is well prepared for the challenge ahead after leading his side to re-gain promotion to the elite division of Ghana football.
In an interview on URA Radio Sports Round Up in the Upper East Region, Abugri, brimming with confidence, noted that coaching in the premiership will be a big task for him but believes that with the support of the club owner, management and supporters he will be able to take King Faisal back to their good old days where the Kumasi based side was one of the big forces to reckon with in Ghanaian top flight football and that King Faisal have come to stay for good.
“I’m well prepared to coach in the premiership. I know coaching here will be a very massive challenge for me but having guided this young side back to the premiership, I don’t think there is nothing to fear about. I will respect any team my side will come up against but I will never be afraid of them,” Abugri said.
Abugri also told URA Sports Round Up that his side have begun preparations some few weeks ago and he is looking to add more players to the side that qualified the team to the premiership. He hinted that he will however still tap and unearth unknown talents to strengthen the side for the forthcoming Premier League campaign.
Abugri is a professional teacher and a holder of UEFA License B and CAF License A coaching certificates and hail from Bawku in the Upper East Region.
He took over the King Faisal job in the second round of the Polytank Division One League 2011/12 at a time Faisal were languishing in 6th spot at the end of the first round.
Mr. Abugri however masterminded a remarkable turn around an unbeaten run for the side in the second round and the national middle league as well and thus qualifier the team back to the Premier League.
