League leaders Asante Kotoko were held to a 1-1 draw by New Edubiase United in their Glo Premier League encounter on Sunday at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Edubiase scored first in the fourth minute through goal-getter Emmanuel Baffour with a shot on the blank side of goalkeeper Soulama Abdoulaye from a Stephen Manu pass.
Kotoko had to wait until two minutes into injury time to level up through Richard Yeboah who canceled the lead by connecting from Yaw Frimpong’s free-kick.
The hosts lost by a lone goal in the reverse encounter and with revenge on their minds, they had to fight hard to split points.
It was Edubiase who kicked off when referee Charles Nii Tagoe whistled for hostilities to begin.
Kotoko quickly took over and in the 12th minute, Kofi Nti Boakye saw his effort miss narrowly.
The visitors who were able to break the midfield of Kotoko took control of the game and made series of forays into their opponents half.
On 22 minutes, Ben Acheampong added his foot to a cross from Prince Baffoe for what appeared as the equalizer, but it was ruled offside.
As if possessed, the visitors continued to dominate but a chance to Baffour on 36 minutes was saved by Soulama.
Two minutes to end the half, Frimpong’s carpet shot was spilled into play by Edubiase goalie Eric Nii Baah but the rebound from Daniel Nii Adjei went wide.
In the 60th minute, Bernard Ofori of New Edubiase hit the crossbar with a perfect shot that beat Soulama.
Later in the 78th minute, a shot from Asiedu Attobrah was parried to corner by Soulama but the resultant corner-kick was wasted.
Both teams exhausted their substitutions and just when a section of the supporters began leaving the stadium, Kotoko equalized through Yeboah to restore smiles on the faces of their teeming fans, who had sat on thorns for a greater part of the game.**
