Kotoko maintains lead on league summit

Cape Coast, Dec 10, GNA - Kumasi Asante Kotoko stayed atop the summit of the Onetouch Premiership after beating debutants Tema Youth 2-0 in their 14th week game at the Robert Mensah Stadium at Cape Coast on Sunday.

The Porcupine Warriors who lead the pack with 30 points scored their first goal in the sixth minute through Murtala Mohammed.

The defender connected a corner kick perfectly taking by the eventual Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the game, Ofosu Appiah after the keeper of the visitors, Ernest Sowah fumbled with a first time save. Tema Youth eventually settled into the game but they could only impose themselves on the game after the recess.

Their game pattern got better by the minutes and it took the excellent defending of Mohammed and Michael Asante at the rear of Kotoko to thwart their attempts at goal.

The hopes of Tema Youth of pulling even was further dashed when skipper Edmund Owusu Ansah picked a pass from the middle, outpaced two defenders before finding the net with goalkeeper Sowah exposed with only 15 minutes left of play.

Meanwhile, two supporters who earlier attempted to bribe some policemen at the venue to enable them enjoy the game from a rooftop close to the stadium were arrested and sent to the Police Station.

Gamba All Blacks came from a goal deficit to beat visiting Tano Bofoakwa 2-1 in their 14th Week Premier League match played at the Swedru Stadium on Sunday.

Substitute Richard Anderson scored both goals for All Blacks after he came into the game in the second half. All the three goals were scored in the second half.

Ironically it was Bofoakwa who scored the opening goal in the 56th minute through Ebenezer Tetteh when he connected home a free kick taken by David Sakordie at the edge of the vital area of the home side. The Bofoakwa lads, however, became complacent after the goal and allowed the home team to dominate proceedings and from then it was evident that the equaliser was far from coming.

And this eventually materialized in the 71st when keeper Shaibu Mohammed in goal for Bofoakwa failed to grab Anderson's terrific shot free-kick.

Anderson who emerged as the best player of the match was on target again in the 82nd minute when he tapped in a rebound from Jafaru Danjuma's free-kick to ensure his side collected the maximum three points. MORE
