LEAGUE: Kotoko Beat Okwawu

Kumasi Asante Kotoko beat Okwawu United 3-1 in the Zone 'A' Kinapharma pPremier league match played at the Kumasi Sports stadium on Sunday.

Kotoko played a determined game to carry the day not only to save their sinking image and to bring smiles back to their teeming supporters who of late have lost confidence in their team due to their poor performance.


They took the lead through Charles Taylor in the 38th minute to break the deadlock with a 35-metre free kick to break the deadlock after he has been fouled.


Kotoko continued to invade the Okwawu vital area but could not increase the tally with the visitors packing their defence thus making it difficult to pass through.

On resumption, Okwawu United brought in Kwabena Yaro for Adolf Gyimah to strengthen their attack but it was still Kotoko who were on top and got their second goal in the 50th minute through Shilla Alhassan.


Okwawu fought gallantly and reduced the tally in the 60th minute through 'strongman' Nasiru Gani who scored with a long range shot. Kotoko sensing danger, brought in Mbola Sandjie for Frank Osei and William Thompson for Aziz Ansah in the 62nd and 75th minutes respectively.


It was However, Okwawu who nearly equalised in a goalmouth melee in the 78th minute but good defensive work by Kotoko eluded them. Let off the hook, Taylor moved with the ball deep into the defence of Okwawu and lobbed it for substitute Mbola to connect home in the 85th minute to bring the scores to 3-1 in favour of Kotoko.
