With the nation eagerly counting down to Election Day, some Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) are gearing up to play their part in ensuring a transparent electoral process.

The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations for Transparent Elections (COCTE), led by Convenor David Kumi Addo, has announced its decision to proceed with independent election monitoring, undeterred by the Electoral Commission's (EC) decision to withhold accreditation to them.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, December 5, 2024, David Kumi Addo declared that the coalition will proceed with its plans, pointing out their responsibility as Ghanaians to promote transparency.

He stressed that COCTE is determined to provide accurate and credible data, in line with the work of media houses and other election observers such as the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO).

"We are Ghanaians, taxpayers, not a tourist organisation. We requested accreditation to enhance transparency, but even if it is denied, we will still observe, collate, and share credible information, not to declare the final results, but to provide accurate data to the public," he stated.

To ensure the reliability of their findings, COCTE plans to implement a stringent data verification process.

"We will not simply rely on our app to disseminate information. We will apply what we call a quadruple cross-checking system to verify and validate every piece of information before releasing it. This is to ensure that everyone, both locally and globally, knows exactly what is happening," he added.

COCTE’s independent observation aims to reinforce public confidence in the integrity and fairness of the electoral process.
