Former President John Agyekum Kufuor says the need for a change in government during the upcoming November general elections is much more crucial for Ghanaians than it was in the year 2000.

According to him, what has made the need for change very pressing is the fact that despite the availability of resources such as the oil find in commercial quantities, the economy remains weak due to the mismanagement of the Mahama led government.

President John Agyekum Kufuor came into office as President in 2000 at a time when Ghanaians were clamoring for change in government after then President J.J Rawlings had ended his nineteen year reign of both military and constitutional rule.

The call for regime change was so huge such that several opposition parties campaigned for the then largest opposition, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to defeat the NDC government in the 2000 election which was keenly contested.

Speaking to Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM, ex President J.A Kufuor stated that the only way Ghanaians will be relieved from the current economic hardships is to vote out the NDC.

“In 2000, Ghana did not have oil, gas, the cocoa sector was bad, but currently we have everything to make this country prosperous, but wherever you go people are complaining of hardships. Traders are lamenting, the youth after completion of school have not hopes of securing jobs; prices of utilities have gone up. I believe strongly that Ghanaians need change and change must certainly come”.
