President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assured that the 2020 General Election would be peaceful and devoid of any vigilante related violence.
“We are not going to allow Ghana’s politics to be compromised by any act of violence and vandalism in the next general elections,” he stated.
Addressing the chiefs and people of Sankore to kick start his two-day official tour of the newly created Ahafo Region, the President commended the people of Sankore and Ahafo in general for the peaceful and orderly manner they conducted themselves in last year’s referendum, which gave birth to the newly created Ahafo Region.
President Akufo-Addo said the Vigilante Bill currently before parliament when passed will deal not only with those who engage in violence but promoters as well stressing that it is irrespective of one’s political or social class.
Responding to a request by the Paramount Chief of Sankore to deal with the poor road network in the area, the President expressed his disappointment of the Mahama-led NDC government for neglecting the area.
He said the previous government captured the Sankore-Kukuom-Abuom road in the 2012 budget indicating that those roads have been constructed.
President Akufo-Addo added that such deception does not befit the status of a former President of Ghana.
He said the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has secured a loan to deal with infrastructure challenges facing many senior high schools (SHS) across the country to enhance teaching and learning.
He added that government would construct about 21 state of the art technical schools across the country and assured the people of their fair share.
Nana Appiah Kubill, Paramount Chief of Sankore on his part called on the President to help fast track operationalisation of a national development plan to facilitate the development of the country.
The President later paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of Kukuom, Nana Osahene Kwaku Aterkyi II and subsequently addressed a durbar of chiefs and people of Mim in the Asutifi South Municipality.
The chief, Nana Okoforobuor Dr Yaw Adjei passionately appealed to the President to ensure the protection of the Ayum forest from further degradation from illegal loggers in order to protect the eco-system and natural environment.
He also appealed to the President to ensure the construction of the Mim town roads among others.
