A number of voters were turned away in the ongoing Special Voting exercise at the Dome Kwabenya constituency.
These voters joined the long queues at the Special Voting centre for the constituency, at the Dome Kwabenya Police Station, on Monday, December 2, 2024, only to be told that they could not vote because their names were not on the Special Voting list.
Speaking to GhanaWeb, the Presiding Officer for the Special Voting, Isabella Anna Adusei-Bediako, explained that the voters' names were missing from the register because they could not complete the process to get their names on the Special Voting List.
She said that these people did not visit the EC district office to complete the process after their names were submitted by their organisations as required.
“They did apply for the Special Voting. This time we did it in such a way that you have to report physically at the EC office at your district to apply for Special Voting.
“They thought sending the list to their various stations would let them take part but that is not how it works this time,” she explained.
The EC official added that all the people who could not vote during the Special Voting would get the chance to vote on election day proper.
“When you come and your name is not in the register, you have to wait until December 7 to vote,” she said.
