President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reiterated that any attempt to subvert the will of the Ghanaian people during the December 7, 2024, general election will be met with the full force of the law.

Speaking at an awards night ceremony to climax the 2024 National Farmer’s Day Celebrations on Friday, the president emphasized the history of Ghana’s democracy and underscored his commitment to protecting it.

“Ladies and gentlemen, as we approach the 2024 general election, let me make one thing absolutely clear again: I am unwavering in my commitment to free, fair, and transparent elections. Ghana’s democracy is a treasure we have all fought to build, and it is a legacy that must be protected. The sovereign will of the Ghanaian people will be upheld, and any attempt to destroy the peace or undermine the democratic process will be met with the full weight of the law,” the president said.

He stated that the paramount will of the Ghanaian people will be upheld above any political or individual interest come December 7 when Ghanaians go to the polls.

“Let there be no doubt, our democracy will remain strong, and the people’s choice will prevail, not that of any desperate, ambitious politician or party,” the president emphasized.

During Friday’s awards night, Nana Owusu Achiaw, a farmer based in the Sekyere-Central District of the Ashanti Region, specializing in mixed cropping, was named the 2024 National Best Farmer.

Nana Achiaw received GHS1 million as his prize, a category sponsored by the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB).

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who was the Special Guest of Honour, presented the Best Farmer with his award, decorating him with the Ghana flag.

Traditionally celebrated on the first Friday of every December, National Farmer’s Day, which is a statutory holiday, is marked to celebrate and award the hard work of Ghanaian farmers.

The day, however, is celebrated in November during an election year.
