Leading members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have shared their perspectives and interpretations of the party’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, position on the ballot paper ahead of the 2024 elections.

Mahama has been placed number 8 out of 13 presidential candidates vying for the 2024 elections after the Electoral Commission conducted a balloting at its headquarters on September 20, 2024.

Some leading members of the party, including executives, have shared their perspectives on the outcome of the balloting.

Sammy Gyamfi, National Communications Officer of the NDC

According to Sammy Gyamfi, the number 8 signifies that John Mahama has been ordained by God.

“Biblically, 8 is a number of new beginnings, which is what the NDC’s agenda to RESET Ghana is all about. The number 8 signifies that John Mahama has been ordained by God to serve as President for 8 years. It also signifies that God has ordained JM to end the 8 years of mismanagement, corruption, nepotism, and state capture of the failed NPP government,” he said in a social media post.

Fifi Kwetey, General Secretary of the NDC

Fifi Kwetey said that the interpretation of the party picking number 8 signifies the need to stop the decay of the country after eight years of the NPP in government.

“As I said already, we came here asking for God's perfect will to be done, and we accept the number 8. After eight critical years of decay, after eight critical years of total disorder and corruption, the darkness that has enveloped this country, that is why the number 8 is quite significant; to tell the country that this is the moment to stop the decay after the eight years.”

Dr. Clement Apaak, NDC MP for Builsa South

Dr. Clement Apaak asserted, “Breaking their 8 to complete his 8. In the scripture, the number 8 signifies ‘regeneration’ or ‘resurrection’. Like a phoenix, he rises!”

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, NDC Member of Parliament for North Tongu

Okudzeto Ablakwa stated, “Voting the 8 to break the 8 and complete his 8!”
