Founder and Leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Akwasi Addai Odike, has called on the governing New Patriotic Party(NPP) to withdraw its flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia from the upcoming December 7 Presidential election.
According to him, Dr. Bawumia who is the current Vice President has no credibility and is undeserving to occupy the highest office of the land as President.
Dr. Bawumia’s choice of Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as running mate for the election was last week affirmed by the National Council of the party completing the NPP Presidential ticket.
He has been campaigning across the country and selling his message to the Ghanaian public in readiness for the general election which he is so confident of winning to break the 8-year governance cycle by the two leading political parties – National Democratic Congress and New Patriotic Party(NPP).
But speaking on the Ghana Kasa show on Kasapa 102.5FM, Akwasi Addai Odike said Dr. Bawumia will do himself a lot of good and save his sinking image by withdrawing from the election.
He believes it is not too late for the former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana to step aside.
“He is the same man who vowed to arrest the dollar and give the key to the IGP. He comes to power and the cedi is speedily depreciating against the Dollar and Bawumia is helplessly watching on. How does he feel when some of these tapes are played back to his hearing? He was the one who stated that ‘if the fundamentals are weak, the exchange rate will expose you’. As we are all witnesses, the exchange rate has exposed the strength of our economy with Bawumia as the Head of the Economic Management Team.
“Left to me alone, the NPP should let Dr. Bawumia step aside as Flagbearer. It is not too late for him to withdraw.”
