2024 elections: We must create a peaceful electoral environment – James Agbey urges stakeholders

James Agbey, a respected operative of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on all stakeholders and citizens to ensure a peaceful electoral environment is prioritized to uphold Ghana's crucial role in regional democracy.

Agbey who recently completed a nationwide tour said after carefully assessing the sentiments of Ghanaians in anticipation of the pending 2024 general elections, there is a noticeable eagerness among ordinary citizens to actively participate in the electoral process.

"From one region to another and constituency to constituency, I have found that the ordinary Ghanaian is prepared to be actively involved in the 2024 election process," he told the media.

His journey covered all 275 constituencies, including visits to border towns and areas historically prone to electoral tensions.

However, his findings also emphasized lingering concerns stemming from past electoral incidents, such as those witnessed during the Electoral Commission's Voter Transfers at Offinso North.

Expressing apprehension, Agbey cautioned against any perceived interference by state entities in the electoral process, emphasizing the potential repercussions on national peace and stability.

He specifically mentioned incidents at Techiman South and in other regions in the 2020 elections and urged for lessons to be drawn from them to enhance democratic integrity.

In an effort to protect democratic integrity, Agbey urged the Electoral Commission and the ruling party to prioritize good governance over political maneuvering.

His appeal, rooted in safeguarding national interests, urged all stakeholders to ensure a peaceful and conducive electoral environment to promote and uphold Ghana's crucial role in regional democracy, peace and integrity.

Drawing on his extensive experience within the NDC, James Agbey rallied support from party cadres and activists, urging readiness to uphold democratic principles and resist any actions that could jeopardize the nation's peace and tranquillity.

His plea resonates as a call to preserve Ghana's legacy as a stabilizing force within the sub-region, emphasizing the importance of collective responsibility in nurturing a peaceful electoral process.

As Ghana approaches a critical moment in its democratic journey, Agbey's message serves as a poignant reminder of the need to uphold electoral integrity and create an environment where the will of the people can manifest freely, free from external manipulation or unrest.
