With less than two weeks to the December 7, 2024, presidential and parliamentary elections, all the stakeholders are fine-tuning their preparations for the polls.
The contenders for the elections are not left out as they canvass for votes across the length and breadth of the country within a few days to election day.
Like in past elections, candidates for the 2024 election, their supporters, and political parties are giving out branded items, including T-shirts, books, sachet water, bottled water, and so on.
But there is a new trend where a wave of customised rice bags, a situation that could be termed as a new market for 'political rice brands,' has emerged, offering Ghanaians variety for what they can save up for the Christmas season.
Some of the new rice brands that have popped up include the ‘24-Hour Rice’, which has the green colours of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Also, there is the ‘It Is Possible Rice,' which has the colours of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), as well as ‘Freedom Rice,’ probably associated with independent presidential candidate Nana Kwame Bediako, widely known as ‘Freedom’.
It is unclear if these rice brands are linked to political parties or simply from individual businesses hoping to capitalise on the season to make some profits.
Here are some photos of the rice bags:
