The National Democratic Congress's (NDC) running mate, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has claimed that the party's 24-hour economy policy will help resolve, to a large extent, some of the economy's problems and provide jobs for young people.
Addressing members of the NDC Professionals Forum at the University of Cape Coast on Monday, during her three-day campaign visit of the Central Region, she stated that Ghana is in dire need of an immediate solution.
“We don’t have money, our currency is where it is heading to, which is not a good place, we can’t pay our debt and we are in a crisis worse than we imagined,” the NDC’s running mate said.
The National Apprenticeship programme and the NDC's 24-hour economy strategy, according to Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, are immediate solutions to the nation's high unemployment rate.
She also pointed out that the country's high unemployment rate has gotten the NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, very worried, which is why the 24-hour economy was decided upon in order to give Ghanaians jobs.
“Some people claiming to be economists are deliberately saying it won’t work and the NDC hasn’t thought through it well. But interestingly, the same people are now saying, their government is already implementing the policy,” she said in a report by 3news.com.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to inform Ghanaians of what plans it has for them, stating that political campaigns are essentially about exchanging ideas.
Additionally, she asked the NPP to quit spreading lies, saying “one cedi, two cedis mobile phones” cannot qualify as a policy.
Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang urged Ghanaians to cast their ballots for John Mahama in the December 7 general elections to enable him realize his pledge of providing jobs for the unemployed youth.
