Decides To Contest
Nana Akomea Confirms NPP Behind Court Cases
News Desk Report
The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has exposed itself as being behind the court cases against creation of the 45 new constituencies.
This exposure became evident when the party’s Director of Communications, Mr. Nana Akomea, said in last Saturday’s Newsfile programe, that the NPP has decided to contest the 45 new constituencies whiles still pursuing the legal actions in court.
The question, our legal experts have checked, has it that there is no case pending with NPP as the plaintiff. The only association NPP has with these court cases is that, a former Attorney-General in the Kufuor administration and Parliamentary Candidate for Krowor constituency, Ayikoi Otoo, is the solicitor for the plaintiffs in two of the cases.
The NPP’s decision to contest in the 45 newly-created constituencies was ordered by Akufo-Addo, who feels that, the Electoral Commission (EC) will win the court cases and that the NPP will be in a tight corner to beat the EC’s deadline for filling of nominations by Parliamentary Candidates.
The decision was also confirmed by Emmanuel Asigri, former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Garu-Tempane in the erstwhile Kufuor administration, at a programme, weeks ago.
Leading members of NPP, who will contest in the newly-created constituencies including Madam Ursula Owusu, for Ablekuma West, Nkrabea Effah Dartey, for one of the Berekum Constituencies and Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, the current NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Weija.
