About 700 members of the ruling National Democratic Congress in the Kwabre
West district are threatening to resign from the party if the constituency
chairman and some other constituency executives fail to step down. Solomon
Adomako, a branch secretary for the Kwabre West constituency tells Xfm 95.1
the executives of the NDC in the district are contributing to the detriment
of the party, hence their call on them to step down. According to him, the
executives have up to 72 hours to step down; failure to which they (all 700
members) will resign from the NDC. Solomon Adomako who organized a press
conference to put forth their grievances also alleged that the constituency
chairman and the District Chief Executive organized thugs who beat them up
and disrupted their press conference. ³We are giving them 72 hours to step
down other than that we will withdraw our membership from the NDC. The
constituency chairman and the DCE organized thugs to come and beat us up and
disrupt the press conference. The macho men told us that they were coming
from the regional secretariat and the DCE also told one of our chairmen that
he will use just five minutes to destroy our program. The way the thing
happened, we believe that he was involved². ³We don¹t need them any moreŠ if
we don¹t hear anything good from the top; we will resign from the NDC². ³I
received a slap from one of themŠ they tore up our banners and broke down
some of our equipments. They mentioned the name of the regional and
constituency chairmen as those who ordered them to. They are threatening us
to stop what we are doing, but we don¹t care what they do. We are waiting
for them we will defend with our lives. We wouldn¹t sit and watch while some
people spoil the NDC¹s chances in this constituencyŠ if the executives want
us to build the chances of the NDC, then they should come sit and talk with
usŠ we want the chairman and the youth organizer to step downŠ otherwise, we
will deal with them,² a member of the NDC in the constituency spoke about
his predicament. However, the constituency chairman has rebuffed their
threats. Speaking on The Big Bite Monday July 25 2011, Osei Bosie laughed
off the call on them to resign, adding, ³I know where they are coming from².
He challenged anybody who doubts his competence to report him to the
regional executives; calling off their bluff. ³It¹s never true; when they
organized the press conference, I was in Kumasi and I heard that they
claimed I had brought some macho men. I have never ordered any people to go
beat them up². ³I am not going to resignŠ we have party structures, when you
level any accusations against someone, you send it to the regional office,
they will call us to see if what you are saying is true or not. This is what
I know². Xfm 95.1/ Accra/ Ghana
