If the calculations are not misleading or inaccurate, the 2024 general elections might have the most numbers of independent presidential candidates contesting than any other in the fourth republic.

That means that besides your favourite, usual political party representatives, there will be some daring individuals with not much of a large political background who will want to beat the odds and become Ghana’s next president.

Facing the real facts, that is not going to be an easy task for any of them, not even for Alan Kyerematen of the Movement for Change, whose popularity before he left the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in January 2024, seems not to be at the same level.

But before the official list of the 2024 presidential candidates is released by the Electoral Commission of Ghana, and as GhanaWeb’s own way of counting down to the December 7, elections, we look back at the faces that made it to the ballot sheets of the 2020 polls.

It is worth noting that by December 2020 – a year that was saddled with the Novel Coronavirus, many people were complaining bitterly about the harshness of the economy.

This is the list of individuals whose faces appeared on the 2020 ballot papers, and how they each performed:

The months ahead will tell who and who will feature on the 2024 list, and ultimately, who will be crowned Ghana’s replacement for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
