Abetifi (E/R), Oct. 16, GNA - The Abetifi constituency branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has elected a 14-member executive under the chairmanship of Mr Charles Asante Gyimah at a constituency conference at Abetifi.

Other members include Mr Joseph Kwadwo Asante, first Vice-Chairman, Mr Francis Otim Second Vice-Chairman, Mr G. G. Dovi, Secretary, Mr Omaro Abubakar, Treasurer and Mr Samuel Addo Adjei Organiser. Mr Kwesi Owusu Boateng was elected Propaganda Secretary, Mr Samuel Asamaoh, Youth Organiser and Ms Diana Osei, Women's Organiser. Speaking at the conference, Mr Tawiah Boateng, Eastern Regional Organiser of the party called on the new executives to work hard to deliver 20,000 votes to the party in the 2008 elections. He said 2008 should be the time for Kwahus to vote massively for the NDC because the policies of the current government had not been favourable to them like those pursued by the former NDC Government. Mr Boateng alleged that the businesses of Kwahu citizens in Accra were collapsing because of high taxes, some of which could be avoided. He alleged that since 2000, the government had not continued with extension of electricity to the villages, which was started by the former NDC government.

Mr Boateng said most of the Kwahu roads, which earmarked by the NDC government for rehabilitation at the time it left office had been abandoned while the NPP Government had not been able to find a permanent solution to the Kwahu water problem.

He said a future NDC government would have better plans for the development of the Kwahu area to serve as the gateway to the Afram Plains, which would be developed to produce food and raw materials for the future agro-industries that would be set up in the Kwahu area Mr Boateng assured members of the Abetifi branch that the party was working hard to ensure unity and effective collaboration between the National Headquarters, the regional and constituencies and urged the new executives to help establish the same relationship between the constituency, the branches and sympathisers of the party.
