Accra, May 22, GNA - Mr Robert Sabah, Ablekuma Central Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has declared his interest in vying for the Party's slot to contest the parliamentary seat in the 2008 General Elections.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra on Monday, he said "Already I am the Assembly Member for the Mathieko Electoral area and as a politician I aspire to greater heights. Therefore I do not deny the fact that I want to become the MP for Ablekuma Central come 2008".

Mr Sabah, who was reacting to a report in an Accra newspaper that he was at loggerhead with the MP for the area, Mr Okuley Nortey, denied that he supported the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate in the 2004 general election.

"How can I support someone against my own party", he said adding "I went on night meetings, which was a house-to-house campaign in the area with him and spoke on the whole campaign trail for Mr Okuley Nortey," he said.

Mr Sabah said he would vie for the NPP slot to contest the Parliamentary seat for the area in the 2008 election immediately "the gates for the contest are opened by the party hierarchy".

He noted that the NPP was a democratic party and every member who felt competent enough to ensure victory could offer himself for the office as a public service.

Mr Sabah denied that he was at loggerhead with the MP, saying, "The fact that I am interested in contesting for the seat does not mean I am cross with my MP".

The NPP Constituency Chairman stressed that the most important thing to him now was how to motivate the foot soldiers of the Party in the area to work hard to ensure victory to retain the seat.
