The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso North, Yussif Issaka Jajah, has expressed concern over reports of an alleged assault on a journalist during the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun at the Church of Pentecost Odorkor.

Speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb on July 11, 2025, the MP said he had not been officially informed of the incident but described the development as “highly unfortunate” if proven true.

"I just don't want to believe or stand on what you are telling me to make a pronouncement. I'm not aware, but if indeed that is the case, then it's highly unfortunate," he stated.

Jajah added that this was the first time he was hearing of such a report and expressed confidence that the appropriate authorities would not ignore such an incident.

"I don’t think the IGP, Christian Tetteh Yohuno or even the Regional Commander will hear this and just let it go. If indeed it happened, I know they will take the appropriate steps," he noted.

The MP, who is also the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, called for calm and urged for a thorough investigation to establish the facts surrounding the alleged assault.

Eligible voters in 19 polling stations within the constituency are casting their votes to end the long-standing dispute and restore parliamentary representation to the area.

The contest is between the NPP’s Nana Akua Afriyie and the NDC’s Ewurabena Aubynn.
