The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Ablekuma North, Nana Akua Afriyie, has condemned the presence of hoodlums at polling stations, alleging that thugs have taken over security and are intimidating voters in the ongoing rerun in the constituency.

Speaking to the media on Friday, July 11, 2025, she described the atmosphere across polling centres as chaotic, claiming that the only exceptions have been the Odorkor 4 and 5 voting centers.

“Everybody has seen what is happening in Ablekuma North. Everywhere is chaotic. Hoodlums and thugs have invaded the polling stations, almost 200 of them. They want to intimidate voters. People are now afraid to come out because of this,” she said.

A former Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Mavis Hawa Koomson, was among those attacked during a chaotic scene that unfolded as voting progressed at one of the polling stations.

Tensions escalated when a group of unidentified well-built men stormed the St Peter’s Polling Station, disrupting the process and unleashing violence on political figures and journalists.

Eligible voters in 19 polling stations within the constituency are casting their ballots to resolve a long-standing electoral dispute and restore parliamentary representation to the area.

The contest is between the NPP’s Nana Akua Afriyie and the NDC’s Ewurabena Aubynn.
