Koforidua, Aug. 19, GNA - Convention People’s Party (CPP) opinion leaders at the Akyem Abuakwa North and some parts of the Eastern Region have expressed support for Ms Samia Nkrumah, Member of Parliament for Jomoro, in her quest to be elected the National Chairperson of the Party.

“Today, we have no other person than Ms Samia Nkrumah who by her political shrewdness can redeem the CPP from its detractors and the deeds of wolves in sheep skins and above all, from its quiescent state”.

Professor Kwame Botwe-Asamoah of the USA branch of the CPP and a Spokesperson for the group said this at a press conference in Koforidua on Thursday.

He said given the current political landscape in the country, they found Ms Samia Nkrumah to be the last hope for the resurgence of the CPP.

“Thus , the current political environment in Ghana requires a leader who, by her track record, understands democracy from the bottom up, grass root organization skills, human relation and communication skills, dedication, commitment, perseverance, ideological clarity, clear vision, warm and charming personality and mission to be a servant of the people of the country”.

Professor Botwe-Asamoah said in the 2008 General Elections Ms Samia Nkrumah and her able campaign team not only won the heart and admiration of the people in Jomoro constituency but also won the only CPP Parliamentary seat.

He said Ms Samia Nkrumah accomplished that task by going to the people, living and eating with them, sleeping where they slept as well as listening and learning from them.

“That is why we find the argument that Ms Samia Nkrumah is untested, inexperienced and young laughable. In fact this argument does not measure up to the facts of history”.

“Kwame Nkrumah was 37 years old when he returned to the Gold Coast to iron out the differing interests in the United Gold Coast Convention (made up f the Gold Coast League and Gold Coast National Party) in his capacity as the General Secretary of the fragile UGCC, into a national movement”.

Professor Botwe-Asamoah said in 2008, then candidate Barrack Obama was 48 years old when he won the USA Presidency while Ms Samia Nkrumah is at the moment 50 plus.

He said it was mid-boggling that people who call themselves true Nkrumahists would suddenly re-surface to campaign against Ms Samia Nkrumah, the rising star of the CPP, let alone resort to vile attacks on her integrity.

“We have witnessed the results of the past leaders of the CPP. In fact, the result of the 2008 general election was perhaps the lowest moment in the annals of the Party”.

Professor Botwe-Asamoah said that was why they found it incomprehensible the pronouncements and behaviour of an individual embarking on national campaign as though he is the flag-bearer of the Party.

He said the arguments about Ms Samia Nkrumah’s age were excuses for the inability of some of the past leadership to wake up the “Sleeping Giant”.

“In fact, the shameful, destructive attacks on her, as history has shown us, are the symptoms of a wounded lion, an individual with an inordinate ambition to take control of the Party and prevent it from winning the heart of Ghanaians”.

“But the unquestionable qualities of Samia will certainly put a stop to the hidden agenda of the wolves in sheep skins, in her (Samia) capacity as National Chairperson of the CPP”.
