... to make pronouncement on parliamentary candidate
New Tafo (E/R), Aug. 6, GNA - The Abuakwa North Constituency Executive of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party to come out with a decision on the recommendations of the legal committee of the party on the nominated parliamentary candidate of the party for the constituency. The Constituency Chairman of the Party, Mr Douglas Asare made the call at a press conference at New Tafo on Tuesday, where he explained that, the delay by the NEC on the issue could cause chaos, anarchy and confusion in the constituency.
The legal committee of the party has declared that the elected parliamentary candidate of the party for the constituency, Professor Samuel Kwadwo Amoako, be disqualified because he was holding a dual citizenship at the time that he filed his nomination, which was against the constitution of the party.
Mr Asare said the decision of the legal committee of the party had left the constituency without a parliamentary candidate and that was seriously affecting campaigns of the party in the constituency because there was nobody to lead the campaign.
He maintains that, Prof. Amoako did not have any working relationship with members of the constituency executive after his elections and had not been contributing anything towards the running of the party in the constituency.
Mr Asare said since 2004 when Prof. Amoako donated a computer and accessories to the party, the only other contribution that he had made to the party was his dues of 18 Ghana cedis.
He alleged that, some leading members of the party were trying to influence NEC to delay the pronouncement on the decision of the legal committee of the party to enable Prof. Amoako to renounce his American citizenship before the meeting of the NEC to enable them to influence the NEC to ignore the decision of the legal committee. Mr Asare argued that, even if Prof. Amoako renounced his American citizenship, it still stands that at the time of filing his nomination to contest the primaries of the party; he did not declare that he was holding both an American and Ghanaian citizenship in contravention of the constitution of the party.
He said the NPP was founded on the principles of Rule of Law and therefore called on the leadership of the party to uphold that principles on, which the party was established.
