Posters of Member of Parliament for Chiana/Paga Constituency have popped up days after he lost the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primary.
Abuga Pele lost last Saturday’s primary by 160 votes to lawyer Rudolf Amenga-Etego. There have been calls from Mr Pele’s supporters to go independent in the 2016 elections.
On Tuesday, July 19, the supporters of the embattled MP, who is standing trial for misappropriations while at the helm at the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA), accused District Chief Executive of Kassena Nankana West George Nontera and some national executives as behind Mr Pele’s loss.
Mr Pele’s personal assistant, Michael Gantera, confirmed to TV3’s Rabiu Tanko Mohammed on Tuesday that aside the posters, NDC’s office in the constituency will be draped in Mr Pele’s pictures in the coming days.
Mr Gantera said they designed the posters to get Mr Pele to run as an independent candidate and will do so for the constituency office because he funded it. The supporters claim Mr Amenga-Etego’s candidacy if not challenged by a “more competent” Mr Pele will see the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) annex the seat.
Mr Pele has neither confirmed nor denied the poster but has said he will heed to calls of the people in the constituency.
