The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa, has admonished political parties to accept the outcome of the elections, which will be held in December, in good faith.

According to her, the acceptance of the electoral results by the political parties will play a crucial role in preventing potential violence from disgruntled party members and their supporters.

"Surely there will be a winner and surely, there will be losers. And so we all call on our contestants to accept the outcome of the elections because we undertake and we commit to ensuring that the elections are free, they are fair, they are credible, they are transparent," she stated.

Addressing the leadership of parliament, during a presentation of the democracy cup to the EC, Jean Mensa reaffirmed her dedication to ensuring that the 2024 general elections are conducted with transparency, freedom and fairness.

"So like the referee of the match this afternoon we commit to ensuring transparency in all aspects of our work. Our activities are open. As I mentioned, right from the registration through to the declaration of elections, everything is done in the full glare of the public, and nothing is hidden. And we will commit to this to maintaining and ensuring that level of transparency across all aspects of our work," she explained.

Her comments come on the back of viral videos circulating on social media, depicting two women, purporting to be members of a political party, accusing the EC of registering voters and undertaking a transfer of votes exercise.

However, reacting to the video, the EC, in a statement urged Ghanaians to ignore the claims, branding them as false and calculated mischief aimed at tarnishing the image of the commission in the lead-up to the general election in December.

The commission further urged political parties to avoid propagating falsehood which has the potential of undermining state institutions and destroying the peace and stability of the country.
