Accolades are pouring in for Julius Debrah, the newly appointed Chief of Staff to President John Dramani Mahama.

The latest is the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth wing in the Suhum Constituency, describing him as an “epitome of hard work, dedication and unity”.

Speaking to some branch youth organisers in the Suhum constituency where Julius Debrah in 2012, represented the party as the Parliamentary Candidate, Mr. David Kofi Danso, the Youth Organiser for the constituency recounted the sacrifices, dedication and hard work of Mr. Julius Debrah towards the NDC and various governments in Suhum, Eastern Region and Ghana as a whole since 1993.

"Julius was and still remains one of us, he represents you and I who have worked hard at all levels of the party to ensure we continue to win elections as a political party at the polls.... He also brought optimism about quality performance in all the sectors he has served as a government appointee which include Chief Executive Director of Ghana Tourist Board, Eastern Regional Minister which made him become Greater Accra Regional Minister due to dynamism. Mr Julius Debrah is very disciplined, shows very positive attitude towards work and has good human relations. His exemplary leadership, sense of commitment and love for all must be a model for all of us to emulate," stated Mr.Kofi Danso in glowing reference to the new Chief of Staff.

Several stakeholders have congratulated Mr. Debrah for his new appointment, convinced that he is the ‘right man for the job’.

Last week, President John Dramani Mahama appointed Julius Debrah-the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD) as his new Chief of Staff as he replaces the erstwhile Prosper Bani.

The swift move has been widely hailed from all quarters; on social media; from the general public and from within the ruling NDC which is reportedly replete with an inherent perception that the Presidency was increasingly alienating itself from the general socio-political concerns of the ruling party and the general public.

A Press Statement signed and released on February 15, 2015 by Dr. Omane Boamah, the Minister of Communications and Presidential Spokesperson stated that the new Chief of Staff takes over from Mr. Bani who has been appointed as an Ambassador Extraordinaire and Plenipotentiary.

According to Dr. Boamah, the President expects the new appointees to be committed to the task of managing the affairs of the Office of the President in order to realise his vision for the economic transformation of Ghana.

The move has been hailed as a smart one given Mr. Julius Debrah media savviness and known capacity to mobilise goodwill from all sections of the society. Indeed, he is known as the ‘grassroots man’ within the NDC. During his stint at the MLGRD, he also earned the accolades as the “Sanitation Commando” given the zest in which he mobilised officialdom to popularise the now widely acclaimed National Sanitation Day.

He is regarded as the best bet for a Presidential Chief of Staff in the current socio-political dispensation.
